Hailed by the New York press as “a spectacular virtuoso, [playing] with effortless brilliance, unbridled passion, and a remarkable flair,” violinist Olivier Fluchaire has performed extensively as featured soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Austria, Belgium, England, Germany, South Korea, Lithuania, Russia, and his native France.
Before returning to Hunter College, he served as an Associate Professor and Division Chair for the Fine and Performing Arts at Manhattanville College. During his tenure at Manhattanville, he oversaw all undergraduate and graduate degrees in education (Ed), performance (BFA/BM) and Arts (BA) for music, dance, studio arts and theatre.
Prof. Fluchaire’s main area of research focuses on the bow (the violin’s inseparable partner). He has given papers at the Bilateral International Conference in Porto, Portugal, The correlation between performers and non-scholastic musicology and theory, AMIS meeting at the National Music Museum in South Dakota, The French School Legacy of Bow-Making during the Twentieth, The Franco-Belgium International Music Conference in La Spezia, Italy, The French School of Bow-Making in Mirecourt and Paris from François Xavier Tourte to Bernard Ouchard and a poster presentation at the University of Oxford, U.K., Time Feeling or Time Keeping.
Olivier Fluchaire is a graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin School in London, UK. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s in music degrees on a full merit scholarship from Manhattan School of Music (New York, NY), and his doctorate, as a New York Times Fellowship recipient, from the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
