Prof. Poundie Burstein’s study of form in mid-eighteenth century European music has been recently published by Oxford University Press. This study, entitled Journeys Through Galant Expositions, encourages readers to view the form of Galant music using metaphors and models in line with those used by people who composed, performed, improvised, and listened to music at the time. The formal concepts of these earlier musicians are taken not merely as historical curiosities or precursors of later theories, but as down-to-earth tools that can directly impact our understanding and appreciation of this music as audiences and performers.
Among the special features of this publication is the companion website to the book that includes some exciting excerpts of piano works performed by Prof. Quynh Nguyen. Purchase his new book here.
