Prof. Geoffrey Burleson Interviewed on WWFM’s “Between The Keys”, plus Performances on Portugal’s Porto PianoFest Solo Series and with New York City’s CompCord Ensemble

Episode No. 273 of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys welcomed special guest pianist and composer Geoffrey Burleson, for a full hour of conversation and music with The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler, originally broadcast on September 15th and 16th on WWFM-The Classical Network, covering New York City, Philadelphia, and Princeton, and streaming on WWFM.org. The broadcast was archived, and can be streamed and listened to on their website.

“I’ve been wanting to feature Geoff on the program for some time,” says Distler. “He’s a significant member of the music community by virtue of his multi-faceted gifts and broad ranging yet often surprising repertoire, not to mention his important advocacy for the music of his time, as well as his ambitious cycle encompassing Camille Saint-Saëns’ complete solo piano music.”

Burleson and Distler got together to record this episode back in February, a month before the lockdowns. At long last, it aired on September 15th, and features music by Camille Saint-Saëns, Roy Harris, Vincent Persichetti, and Geoffrey Burleson himself.

Prof. Burleson has also been very active with live performance in August and September, including a featured live-streamed solo recital as part of Portugal’s Porto PianoFest in August, and premiering nine pieces with the CompCord Ensemble at New York City’s Michiko Studios on September 19th, performing with saxophonist and Groove Collective founder Jay Rodriguez and others.
