Hunter Opera Theater premieres Lady Bird: First Lady of the Land and Fireworks: an American opera buffa

On Thursday, May 11th, The Hunter Opera Company premiered “Lady Bird: First Lady of the Land”, composed by Henry Mollicone with libretto by Sheldon Harnick, and “Fireworks: an American opera buffa” composed by Kitty Brazelton with libretto by Billy Aronson at The Kaye Playhouse.  These stellar performances were directed by Susan Gonzalez and conducted by Steven Crawford, with set design and projection created and directed by Visiting Artist-in-Residence Monica Duncan.

Thursday evening’s cast of “Lady Bird: First Lady of the Land” featured Amanda Zory as Lady Bird Johnson, Troy Gordon as Lyndon B. Johnson, Victoria Franco as Luci Johnson, Carol Szwei as Lynda Johnson, Jacob January as Young Lyndon B. Johnson, and Flora Kirou as Young Lady Bird Johnson.  Thursday’s performance of “Fireworks: an American opera buffa” featured Joanna Malaszczyk as Intergalactic Tocqueville (IT), Joyce Lim as The Mom, Gabrielle Cuadra as The Rebel, Gamal El Sawah as The Nerd, Jacob January as The Actor, and George Heath as The Groundskeeper.

The closing performances on Friday, May 12th was also a massive success.  The cast of Friday’s performance of “Lady Bird: First Lady of the Land” featured Karen Luna as Lady Bird Johnson, George Heath as Lyndon B. Johnson, Joanna Malaszczyk as Luci Johnson, Paule Aboite as Lynda Johnson, Jacob January as Young Lyndon B. Johnson, and Flora Kirou as Young Lady Bird Johnson.  Friday’s performance of “Fireworks: an American opera buffa” featured Jacqueline Caruana as Intergalactic Tocqueville (IT), Joanna Mieleszko as The Mom, Sofia Ben-Hur as The Rebel, Gamal El Sawah as The Nerd, Jacob January as The Actor, and as The Groundskeeper.
